The 2021 CVG Show opens at the Collective Visions Gallery in Bremerton, Washington on January 23. The gallery will be open to visitors, subject to Covid restrictions. A variety of virtual events are planned. See the Gallery's website for the latest information.

My quilt, Line Dry, will be included in the exhibit. This quilt was inspired by my trip to India and Nepal in 2013. During a walk through the older part of Khajuraho I saw colorful saris hanging on clotheslines adorning dwellings painted Mediterranean blue. Upon my return home, those images made their way forward.

Bonnie writes:
The anthropologist in me is fascinated by other cultures. And as someone who has always been interested in geology and the history of the earth, I love seeing the variations in terrain and the spectacular shows created by natural earth processes. I create landscape and abstract works inspired by the places I have lived and the exotic countries I have visited. I try to convey my response to the character and essence of these places, the people I have visited, and the creations of cultures that have come before. My works are created from my hand-dyed fabrics. I usually compose my pieces using an improvisational style and design on the wall. Some of the piecing is quite difficult and time consuming. I have a longarm sewing machine, which makes the close machine quilting feasible and the quilting process enjoyable.
I consider myself a beginner at painting. I have experimented with acrylics and with oil and cold wax. My first few paintings for this series I undertook as color studies for the quilts I wanted to make. Over the course of working on this concept, some of the paintings have developed to be works in their own right. Recently I have been working more with oil and cold wax. I feel it suits my style and hope to develop my expertise in the medium.
In my Personal Landscapes works I have been exploring the effect of the medium on the outcome of the work. I have started with a photograph, mostly taken on my travels, and then created a painting and also a quilt inspired by the photo. I find my interpretations to be quite different in mood, size, format, and degree of abstraction, depending on the medium. The Personal Landscapes series began, unbeknownst to me, with my Reflection quilt in 2008. I have explored this idea of interpreting personal landscapes in the years since. The experiment is ongoing.

Kindred: Celebrating Our Ancestors
August 11, 2017 - January 28, 2018
13480 Dowell Road
Dowell, Maryland

This exhibit invites artists to celebrate the stories, people, and places that define them. Do you find meaning and a sense of connection in your family tree, or in those people you consider your kindred spirits? How do the tangible and intangible remnants of past lives speak to you today? For some, delving into one’s ancestry is the key to unlocking the mysteries of who and what you are. For others, creating a “family of choice” provides a sense of connection. However you imagine your family, we invite artists to celebrate how they are defined by the past, and the lives of those who have come before them.

State of WA(ter)
A SAQA Washington Exhibit
August 2 - October 29, 2017
Pacific Northwest Quilt and Fiberart Museum
703 South Second Street
La Conner, WA 98257
(360) 466-4288

SAQA WA Region is pleased to be mounting its first regional exhibition, the State of WA(ter). Although nearly 5,000 square miles of our state are covered in water, the landscapes of the western and eastern regions could hardly be more different. Washington is a state shaped by extremes of water: the cool, rainy West contrasts vividly with the dry, more climatically severe East. Dividing the East from the West is the dramatic Cascade mountain range, itself a setting for a plethora of lakes, rivers, and glaciers.

We invited quilt artists in the Washington region to interpret these extremes of water, either by representing the character of water in the east or the west, or in the mountainous region between. Works that illustrate or celebrate the contrast between both regions are included.
