Impressions of Shanghai

Here are a few photos from my recent trip to China.  These are from Shanghai.  The first stop, after a nap at the hotel, was, of course, shopping!  This is a pedestrian mall in the French Consignment. As you can see, I was impressed with the window and shop displays.

This was my first restaurant meal in China.  Mild curry, very good.

The next day, the SmarTours tour began with a walk through the Wu Garden

and then a stroll through the nearby market.

We toured a silk factory.  This machine unwinds the silk from the cocoon.

To make comforters with silk batting, they stretch the cocoons over wooden forms of graduating sizes.

Then the stretched cocoon is stretched even further by hand and laid out on a table to make the batt.

This is The Bund, the older European part of Shanghai.

Across the river is the newer part of the city.

Quilts Bound for Mayan Families

A new shipment is on its way. The first quilt is from my sister Linda in Palm Desert.

The next two are by one of my sister's friend, Marta, also from Palm Desert.

This is one of the charity quilts from my sister's Lunch Bunch in Palm Desert.  This one was pieced by Pam M.

This colorful quilt, Flash Dance, was pieced by Rosie from Seattle.

This is a collaboration between Rosie and Pat S. in Anchorage.

This is another by Pat S. in Anchorage.
Pat B. in Idaho has donated more than 20 tops! They are all so colorful and quirky!

This charm quilt is from Melisse in Ridgefield.

And these last 3 are mine. I've had lots of fun using up scraps in these alphabet quilts. The quilt at the bottom started with scraps leftover from the purses I make.
