The Jardim Botanico in Rio de Janeiro

The highlight of day 2 in Rio was a visit to the Botanical Garden, Jardim Botanico.  Here are a few of the views, textures, and colors.

A Slaty-Breasted Wood-Rail, Aramides saracura.

The embodiment of my vision in making Canopy.

These palm trees (Roystonea oleracea) were planted in the early 1800's by the Portuguese king who founded the garden.

Lily pads in the pond in the Japanese Garden.

A rustic old greenhouse now holds a sculpture collection.

We saw several more Great Egrets, Ardea alba.

There is a whole greenhouse devoted to bromiliades.

More days in Rio to come.
